  1. Big Foot Events Showcase 2022

    Venue: Village Hotel Blackpool

    Date: 10th October 2022

Reviewers: Mark Ritchie | UK Cabaret Magazine | Industry Clients

Pulling out all the stops in terms of the venue, hospitality, and the peripheral mix and mingle and walkabout artistes is nothing new to this company. This was, in my view, quite simply the best presented of all the many showcases producer Erica Crompton (Big Foot’s Director) has kindly invited me along to over the years.

Chosen to present the showcase was Award-winning Host and DJ Tom Finkill; this handsome chappie made a great job of the introductions.

Enter a glamorous redhead, a blonde, and a brunette, all resplendent in matching Roaring 20s flapper-style gowns. Known collectively as The Bluebirds, these ladies gave us a great display of the postmodern jukebox withthe aid of toothpaste-ad smiles, nifty choreography and, above all, some tight vocal harmony work.

The Skiband gave us a fun interlude of walkabout musical entertainment. Wading through the audience, complete with brass, drums, and dressed inexplicably, but hilariously, as chefs, this five-handed combo created many smiles and much laughter whilst playing some crazy tunes. Fiercely entertaining and refreshingly irreverent, they cater to many different themes: Christmas, Summer, Chefs, LED, and bring fun and frolics to every person they meet.

The high standards continued with The Voxens, a three-girl vocal act who gave us a selection of ‘big songs’ whilst harmonising and sharing the vocal responsibility by virtue of some cleverly arranged segues. Superbly presented and colour coordinated, all of which indicates that these tuneful ladies are no strangers to entertaining in the corporate market and on cruise ships.

I have to begin by stating that Sweet Sensation are a terrific four-piece band; although having said that alone is not enough. The lead vocalist has a truly great voice and I would suggest this is a higher end function band par excellence. Also available as 80s Sensation and Flameproof 90s.

Rouge La La! is the name of a dance troupe who appeared in sexy costumes and displayed smooth and well-rehearsed routines from ‘Moulin Rouge!’. The troupe promise bespoke shows for clients and I would imagine they do a great job in any chosen format.

Actor and singer Tom Lister enjoys a certain celebrity status having appeared in the rural soap ‘Emmerdale’ for many years. Tom is best known for his award-winning role as Carl King in ‘Emmerdale’, his starring role in West End’s ’42nd Street’, and as Wild Bill Hitchcock in ‘Calamity Jane’. Like so many characters in this tragically dramatic, fictitious Yorkshire Dales village, Mr Lister’s character met his doom amongst the sheep and the dry-stone walls some ten years ago. Now a fully-fledged West End star, this lovely singer gave us a segment from his cabaret act, which was all very nice.

Killers Kollective are a band, fronted by a cracking Brandon Flowers soundalike, who gave us a few of the hits from The Killers seminal ‘Hot Fuss’ album. Their electrifying energy, killer vocals range and radiant personality all come together in this accurate tribute.

Pencil-slim singer Amy G appeared as Dua Lipa and was accompanied by her dancers. There are a lot of Dua Lipa tributes out there and where there is demand, there has to be supply! Amy G is one of the best, known for her powerful vocals and heart-warming personality, with the ability to capture audiences wherever she goes. Amy is also available to perform her tribute to Ariana Grande, plus her incredible Diva show.

Boomin are a long-established three-piece live party band with a name which goes before them, and no doubt shed-loads of return business in the diary. Boomin will get any party started and they simply must be the market leaders. I loved their ‘singing oven-glove sketch’. With mash-ups and mega-mixes plus on-stage antics, Boomin have proved beyond a doubt that they are the Gods of rock, pop, and party!

Kevin & Perry Superstar DJs is a new show from industry name Dean Taylor and his partner-in-laughter Lea Jenkins. Anyone who managed to sit through the Ibiza-based film ‘Kevin & Perry Go Large’ will have witnessed the horrors of the dance song ‘All I Wanna Do Is Do It – Do It’. Great fun, now with a DJ element, which is sure to add more depth to many private functions and events.

Closing out the first half and time for a bit of fame with Dario G. Dario G hit records have stuck in the ear of club dance fans, football fans, and environmentalists since they were first launched during the nineties. Hailed as one of the World’s finest DJs, Dario G is best known for his 1997 hit ‘Sunchyme’ which reached number two in the charts and is a 90s dance anthem to this day. His follow-up single ‘Carnaval De Paris’ reached Number 5 in the 1998 UK Charts and related to the FIFA World Cup in France; it is still played at sporting events worldwide. Available as a DJ Set or Live PA. His theatre show ‘Better Than The 90s’ is currently touring the UK.

During the interval, the peripherals were there to be enjoyed and a myriad of walkabout, mix and mingle people were mixing and mingling in splendid abandon. There were simply too many Superheroes to mention, and very much in-vogue Paddington Bear also popped in amongst illuminated LED Stilt Walkers, Disco Head Dancers, Flower-clad girls, Globots, etcetera.

A fight between three species of Dinosaur then broke out near the bar as things turned prehistoric, whilst a stunt actor attempted to bring them under control. Utterly captivating. Big Foot Events are known for their ‘Jurassic Earth’ stage and walkabout shows, which are both family friendly and completely immersive.

Rather more gentle entertainment continued with an appearance from four elegantly gowned singers, who are collectively known as The Princess Party. The little ones in holiday parks will lap these pretty party princesses up, and private family functions will be the place for this quartet to arrive and make magic happen.

The Kaiser Monkey Killers were a huge hit on the night with their rip-roaring indie rock covers set. The PA quality is top-drawer, edgy, and reassuringly full. The response from the knowledgeable showcase crowd spoke volumes.

Kurtis Ray White was up next with his Craig David tribute show, which I haven’t seen the likes of before. Complete with computerised turntables and high-standard soundalike vocals, there is sure to be business galore for this impressive performer.

I loved Fleeting Rumours, which unsurprisingly are a completely live, six-piece Fleetwood Mac tribute band. These people are what I call ‘proper musos’ and I loved the sound of their own ‘Stevie Nicks’. A great segued showcase set revealed the many strengths of this top-class band.

Taking us on a trip back to 1960s Detroit was A Night To Remember. The velvet vocals from a stellar cast of performers, fronted by ‘The Voice UK’ finalist Bizzi Dixon, authentically recreated the sound responsible for lifting an entire generation to its feet. Energetic live entertainment, great choreography, and dazzling costumes.

I loved All About Elton, especially Elton himself, played here by Rob Taylor. Three musicians completed the live band pitch of this Elton, which included included the reassuring and authentic sight of a drummer reading from ‘dots’. Mr Taylor has the Elton tone, the Elton showmanship, and the implausible Elton Hairdo!

Amy In The House is a tribute to the much-missed Ms Winehouse by a singer called Caralee, featuring the style, mannerisms, vocals, and all the hits, including ‘Back To Black’, ‘Valerie’, ‘Rehab’, and more.

Celebrating Dolly was singer Carla Palmer and exactly as described! Cannot fault her as a Dolly Parton Tribute Act. All the classics delivered with all the mannerisms! Even if you’re not a fan of Dolly Parton, it’s hard not to warm to her personality.

Closing out a memorable evening was the seventeen members of The Sea Shanty Band. Various band mates clambered aboard this musical vessel and even traversed the room while playing an array of nautical ditties. All seventeen musical mariners were dressed as old salts, gnarled trawler men, and other assorted seafarers. Sea Shanties are in-vogue right now and this extraordinary ensemble is perfect for an epic ocean-themed night of entertainment!

This writer has had surreal moments previously, however I don’t remember any experience exceeding a pair of oven gloves serenading each other, a dinosaur’s tail bashing me about the head as the creature swished his tail behind, and a hostess resplendent in a dress complete with slots in which glasses of welcoming champagne were offered.

The next time anyone tries to convince you that variety is dead, refer them to this review! One thing is for sure, Big Foot Events know just how to provide and promote just about anything.

  2. Creating a Winter Wonderland at Vulcan Park

In December 2021, Big Foot Events had the pleasure of creating a magical, snowy Winter Wonderland for Workington Town Council.

    The Brief

Our client reached out to create an extra special winter event! The client wanted to provide beautiful snow effects and wintry entertainment for their event to be completely magical! Their aim was to transform their outdoor venue into a Winter Wonderland.

    The Challenges

The Winter Wonderland venue was a beautiful outdoor environment with grass, trees, shrubbery, and paving. Due to the vast expanse of the space and varying landscape, creating a magical and realistic snow scene would be a difficult – but exciting – challenge!

We needed to manage our client’s expectations and provide a stunning snow effect while using their budget effectively. To accomplish this, we needed to evaluate the setting, its accessibility, and any restrictions we would face in creating an authentic snow scene. We needed to consider different techniques to create a wintry atmosphere and provide the perfect illusion of settled snow for a prolonged period of time. We would need to incorporate the natural scenery and create a lasting effect.

    The Solutions

We organised a site visit with the client at Vulcan Park. This visit enabled us to make an in-person accurate assessment of the environment and plan effectively. Meeting the client also allowed them to have confidence in our plan and fully understand the service we were able to provide.

We utilised the expertise of our talented Snow Technicians to design a stunning and authentic snow scene. For the best possible effect, we chose to provide a combination of snow effects: settled, falling, and dress snow.

Using a combination of our fantastic snow machines and snow flocking, we created a snow blanket across the grass and designed a beautiful natural setting with snow flocking on leaves and trees. We provided a gentle falling snow effect at the entrance of the park. Visitors stepped through the snowflakes to enter winter wonderland – the perfect snowy photo opportunity!

    The Results

We created a magical Winter Wonderland at Vulcan Park for Workington Town Council! Our expert Snow Technicians created a realistic winter Snow Scene. We combined our fantastic Snow Machines with Snow Flocking techniques – the results were spectacular! We provided gentle falling snow using our high-tech snow machines for the perfect authentic touch – brrr! With snowy trees and snow on the ground and grass, the scene was set.

‘Oh, my goodness. Everyone loved the snow! There were queues all day. The team were great: really professional and helpful. Thank you to you and the team. We really appreciate you helping us make our events so successful!’

  3. Themed Race Days at Newmarket Racecourse

Big Foot Events were delighted to plan a season-long events programme for Newmarket Racecourse.

    The Brief

Our client asked us to design an events programme with themed race days throughout the season. The Racecourse wanted to provide a diverse range of exciting race days and activities that would appeal to different age groups and demographics. They sought to draw in new visitors and entertain returning guests to the racecourse for their race days by offering additional entertainment throughout the day.

    The Challenges

From the first fence of the steeplechase, it was clear that we needed to design an events programme with a lot of variety. Our bespoke themed packages needed to fit to the client’s vision and match the brief. We needed to consider the health and safety aspect of hosting events in an open-air space with live animals. We also had to be wary of the weather conditions as all events would be taking place outside. Our client requested for us to provide entertainment that would not detract from the racing itself. The entertainment needed to enhance the fun and action of the day while the race remained the main focus. We aimed to add to the fun of the race day without overshadowing it. We also needed to consider that the client’s budget encompassed the whole season and would cover each themed day.

    The Solutions

We collaborated with our client to create a selection of bespoke themed packages. We tailored the packages to the client’s requirements and guidelines. Our exciting themes ranger from ‘Superheroes’ and the ‘Roaring 20s’, to ‘Family Sports Day’ and ‘Here Comes Summer’! We ensured that all of the activities, performers, and props we provided were weather-proof. We kept an eye on the forecast ahead of time and took precautions to be able to make any necessary adjustments. Our entertainment aimed to enhance the race day of experience. We ensured that the focus remained on the racing itself. To ensure that the entertainment fit within the client’s budget, we proritised different aspects of the event package for each day. For days targeted towards children and families, we focused on creating fun and games. For adult-focused days, we prioritised musical entertainment, theming, and photo opportunities.

    The Results

We created a wide-ranging selection of bespoke themed race day packages for Newmarket Racecourse. These exciting themes ranged from ‘Superheroes’ and the ‘Roaring 20s’, to ‘Family Sports Day’, ‘Carnival’, and ‘Here Comes Summer’!

    Here Comes Summer

We designed our first race day at Newmarket Racecourse on the 18th of June around the theme ‘Here Comes Summer’. We wanted to create a package that emanated the vibrant energy of a summer party partnered with a classy Ibiza-theme component.

For the perfect photo opportunity, we designed an allocated ‘Instagram area’. We adorned the area with a stunning Sequin Shimmer Wall, balmy Palm Tree Props, and stackable Illuminated Cube Seats. The event flourished with our fantastic summer-themed performers! Decadent Daffodil Ladies roamed the grounds alongside magnificent Ibiza White Party Stilt Walkers. Guests were entertained by a talented Bubble Performer and welcomed into the event with a glass of fizz from our beautiful White and Gold Champagne Dress Lady. We arranged musical entertainment for the race day with a roaming Ibiza Sax Player. Our gnarly Surf Simulator proved a popular entertainment choice for guests looking for a taste of summer fun.

    Carnival

Our second race day with Newmarket Racecourse was ‘Carnival’ themed on the 25th of June. The day was inspired by the spectacular visuals, costumes, and music of the Rio Carnival and Mardi Gras. Additionally, we included the fun and games of the circus!

Guests were invited to dress in the elaborate style of the Rio Carnival! For an stunning accessory, they could participate in a Brazilian Mask-Making Workshop. Children could visit the Glitter and Feathers Bar to create a fabulous ensemble! For fun and games, we provided Carnival Side Stalls, a High Striker, a Helter-Skelter, and a themed Bouncy Castle. A Percussion Band provided Brazilian samba beats to soundtrack the event. To decorate the grounds, we styled the area with Venetian masks, Ficus Plants, a Beach Backdrop, Palm Trees, Mardi Gras Image Boards, and a Christ The Redeemer Prop.

    Family Sports Day

On the 23rd of July, we created a ‘Family Sports Day’. This race day was targeted towards children and families. Race day guests of all ages were welcomed to participate in Sports Day themed challenges. These included a Target Challenge, Basketball Challenge, Beat the Keeper, and Foot Darts. To add to the fun, we supplied an inflatable Obstacle Course, Rodeo Football, and Snowboard Simulator. Guests could also compete in Air-hockey and Table Football Games, race each other in a Sports Day race, and ride Pedal Go-karts.

    Roaring 20s

We enjoyed another themed race day on the 30th of July with a ‘Roaring 20s’ theme. This event was refined and luxurious, intended to make racecourse guests feel like they were attending a high-end, classy Gatsby party!

Newmarket Racecourse welcomed guests on a Red Carpet with Paparazzi capturing their arrival. 1920s-themed entertainers performed Charleston-style choreography and were beautifully costumed with feathers and sparkles for the perfect photo opportunity. Guests could interact and have their photo taken with Movie Walkabout Characters, namely Marilyn Monroe and Charlie Chaplin. A stunning Giant Martini Glass with a glittering performer added opulence and glamour to the event. We decorated the grounds with lavish Props for the most immersive Gatsby experience! These included a Gatsby Logo, Golden Palm Tree Props, Art Deco Starbursts, a Giant Trumpet and Saxophone, and a Dollar Sign Prop.

    Superheroes

Our last race day on the 6th of August was ‘Superheroes’ themed. We used our event-planning superpowers to bring this epic theme to life!

Character performers took on the roles of the Justice League, roaming the grounds as Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman. After superhero meet and greets, guests could take fantastic photos with Props of Batman, Spider-Man, Iron Man, and Superman. We hosted a Superhero-themed Arts and Crafts Bar where children could create their own superhero. Children were invited to attend an exciting Superhero Camp to learn how to save the day! They entered the camp as Superhero Apprentices and needed to courage to take on our It’s a Knock-out Assault Course and inflatable Slide to become fully-fledged Superheroes!

  4. A Magical Christmas with Santa’s Sorting Office

We had the pleasure of helping to create Affinity Lancashire Shopping Outlet’s Christmas Promotions for 2021!

    The Brief

Our client wanted to design a magical and festive environment for children and families at their outlet shopping complex. They wanted to create an extra special Christmas post-lockdown. Local residents could enjoy a truly enchanting festive period!

With our help, exciting ideas, and vast range of Christmas activities, Affinity Lancashire wanted to create a sparkling Christmas. Our client wanted to maximise shop sales, customer dwell time at the site and generate additional footfall over the festive period. They aimed to encourage customers to return to in-person shopping after COVID-19 restrictions were lifted.

We aimed to create impressive visuals and activities to encourage shoppers to visit the site to participate in a magical Christmas activity and choose Affinity Lancashire as their Christmas shopping destination.

Affinity Lancashire wanted to offer their customers a practical activity that would keep children entertained and allow them to enjoy Christmas fun. They wanted to provide a wonderful Christmassy atmosphere with accompanying dazzling visuals and a magical photo opportunity when the activities were not operational.

    The Challenges

One of the main challenges we faced was the differing needs of the complex site’s tenants. Shop visibility and access was extremely important to the client; we needed to ensure that we did not block any shop entrances. We needed to decorate the area with wonderful themed props without restricting the visibility of any shopping units.

Our Installation needed to be unique and stand out against other local Christmas events, encouraging customers to choose Affinity Lancashire for Christmas activities and shopping.

We also needed to ensure that the activities we provided were accessible, fun, and interactive for children of all ages.

We needed to work within a limited budget to design a bespoke package providing the best possible festive experience.

    The Solutions

To utilise Affinity Lancashire’s budget to the best possible effect, we needed to create a Christmas package that fulfilled the client’s wish to provide both a source of entertainment for families as well as wonderful festive visuals.

Amongst Big Foot Events’ array of exciting Christmas activities, fun and games, and stunning theming options, we chose to provide an interactive Santa’s Sorting Office Workshop with Character Performers and Festive Themed Props.

The client chose to make Santa’s Sorting Office a free event. This decision allowed the Installation to be more accessible compared to other local events. This ensured that all families were invited to enjoy a fun, festive event that they may have otherwise missed out on. Visitors to the event were able to make a charitable donation if they wished.

We considered the needs of the surrounding shops and asked for their input during the creative process. Our Elf Performers helped to promote the outlets. They encouraged customers to utilise the Installation and enjoy the shops and Christmas deals on offer. We helped to increase footfall while keeping conversion rates high, ensuring that customers could enjoy the entertainment and Christmas shopping.

In order to keep the Christmas magic alive on days when Santa Claus was not in residence, we made certain that shoppers could still enjoy Christmas at Affinity Lancashire. Our magical Santa’s Sleigh and Reindeer Props were a fantastic Photo Opportunity!

    The Results

We created a magical Christmas for residents and shoppers at Affinity Lancashire!

Our wonderful Christmas Elves and Santa Performers ran Santa’s Sorting Office Workshops on weekends. Visitors embarked on a magical journey through the stations of the Sorting Office, guided by our elves! Children immersed themselves in the role of Santa’s Helper with a Present Building Workshop, a Christmas Tree for Christmas Wishes, a ‘Letters to Santa’ Organising Station, and a Slide to send completed presents to their ‘nice’ recipients!

The Santa’s Sorting Office Installation provided a fantastic festive visual alongside its entertaining practical element. We created a Christmassy atmosphere at the site even when the Sorting Office Workshop was not running. We created opportunities for shoppers to engage with the festive promotions with Props and Photo Opportunities. When Santa was too busy making his ‘Naughty or Nice’ list to visit, shoppers were welcome to have their photo taken in his Sleigh!

We felt that the Santa’s Sorting Office was a great success, with interactive festive fun for all. It transported visitors to a world of wonder in the lead up to Christmas, helping to make every visitor’s Christmas wishes come true!

  6. The Elf Academy

In December 2021, the Big Foot Events team were given the exciting task of creating a special Christmas-themed private party for our client. We designed a bespoke ‘Elf Academy’ party with fun workshops and fantastic performers!

    The Brief

Our client reached out to ask us to design an extra special themed birthday party for her son who had requested his special day have ‘Christmas vibes’ and plenty of fun!

With a small budget, we wanted to ensure that we created a magical and memorable party with a big impact.

    The Challenges

We aimed to avoid limiting any fun or festivities due to cost restrictions. We needed to create a Christmassy atmosphere and design an excellent bespoke package for our client that made the best possible use of their budget.

The party needed to appeal to children of all ages with interactive elements that would keep the party guests entertained throughout the day.

    The Solutions

We took one of our fantastic interactive entertainment designs and scaled it down. It would now fit within the client’s budget while meeting their needs and exceeding their expectations.

We concentrated on the interactivity of the party to maximise fun and entertainment! The package was developed from our exciting ‘Elf Workshop’ concept that included different stations, activities, and challenges for the party goers. This workshop activity would keep costs low while providing maximum fun!

To ensure that this would be a sparkling festive event, we highlighted the abilities of our energetic performers as opposed to decor and theming. This would appeal to the young age group and provide fantastic entertainment – the main focus of the party.

    The Results

We created a magical Christmas extravaganza! We provided a bespoke ‘Elf Academy’ party with mini workshops. The Elf Academy also had exciting Meet and Greet opportunities with our Elf and Santa Claus performers!

Party guests were tasked with the mission of making Santa’s Sleigh fly! To complete this, they participated in a series of fun activities and interactive performances. The children needed three different components for Santa’s Sleigh to soar through the sky and deliver presents in time for Christmas Day. They needed to create Magic Reindeer Dust, Joy, and Belief in Santa Claus.

Each child was assigned the role of ‘Apprentice Elf’ and they were guided through the Elf Academy experience by our fantastic and spectacularly costumed Elf Performers. They learnt how to create Christmas magic while having plenty of fun!

Our Barometer Prop tracked the party goer’s achievements as they completed the mini workshop tasks and progressed through the Elf Academy on their journey to become fully-fledged Christmas Elves and save Christmas!

To begin, our Elf Performers led a special Magic Reindeer Dust making workshop. The second stage was to generate lots of joy by having as much fun as possible; our Elves taught the children a special elf song, helped them rehearse an elf dance, and played a range of Christmas games. Then, the children took part in a cookie decorating workshop and wrote letters to Santa Claus containing their Christmas wishes.

When these fun challenges were completed, the magical Barometer would display 100%. The children were successful in making Santa’s Sleigh take flight! The party guests were awarded stickers declaring them to be certified Santa’s Helpers.

    Testimonial & Feedback

The Elf Academy brought real Christmas magic to the birthday party, and we received wonderful feedback from the client! The birthday boy and his party guests thoroughly enjoyed the experience and all the exciting activities.

‘I just wanted to say a big ‘thank you’ for the help with Harvey’s birthday. It was so good – manic – but amazing!’

  7. Better Than The 90s

With Better Than The 90s, we sought to fill a gap in the market and create an original and unique 90s themed theatre production to tour throughout the UK.

    The Brief

Our aim was to create a visual and musical spectacular to provide a fun, nostalgic journey that would take audiences back to the 1990s. It was important for the production to include the right artists, visuals, and story-line to provide spectators with a fantastic night of entertainment and present a show that would be popular with theatre audiences.

    The Challenges

To be successful, the production required an experienced and credible show leader. We needed to find someone reputable and knowledgeable to maintain authenticity and attract audiences.

It was very important for the show to be genuine and unique. It needed to be unlike a typical 90s club night – we wanted to offer audiences something that they couldn’t find anywhere else – something refreshing, new, and unique. With captivating visuals and an entertaining story-line, we also needed a brilliant cast to perform a show that was fluid and not segmented, and follow a full narrative.

We also required high quality promotional materials with posters, flyers, and teaser videos to generate interest, excitement, and anticipation in the build up to the show’s debut and tour.

    The Solutions

We contacted Paul Spencer, also known by his stage name Dario G. With many years of experience in the music industry, particularly in the 1990s, Paul was perfect to advise on the successes and shortcomings of 90s themed events, club nights, and productions. He provided us with a unique perspective on creating, hosting, and performing in 90s themed events which provided us with a well-informed insight into how to make Better Than The 90s a unique and popular experience.

With this solid foundation established to build upon, we looked to creating the body of the show: the story, the cast, and the visuals. We wanted the show to offer more than a DJ and Star Name appearances, such as in a 90s nightclub experience – the production needed to deliver a more theatrical, immersive 90s experience. To achieve this, we created an impressive full stage line-up with musical numbers, an exciting and relatable story-line, and additional dancers in order to have as much choreography as possible throughout the length of the show.

On the marketing side, we spent time redesigning poster concepts to create the perfect promotional materials. The final designs for our digital and print promotions were made live, and an upbeat exciting video advert was released online.

    The Result

Paul was a natural director, using his vast experience and industry connections to create a unique, nostalgic, and wonderful show!

The story-line centres around a group of girls getting ready to go to a 90s night out, captivating an audience musically and narratively. Our next stage was to cast fantastic character actors to perform in iconic roles from 1990s TV and film. These character appearances connected different sections of the show and contribute to the story-line, ensuring that the production coalesced.

Paul enlisted brilliant talents from the 1990s. These included Kelly Llorena, lead vocalist from the 90s dance group N-Trance whose 1995 #2 hit ‘Set You Free’ remains a club classic. The fantastic electronic music artist Rozalla, behind the 1991 hit single ‘Everybody’s Free (To Feel Good)’ also makes a feature appearance in Better Than The 90s. A special surprise guest, kept secret for impact, also appears!

The dance troupe with our additional dancers, brilliant full length choreography, and fantastic costuming added extra flair and dazzling visuals to the show.

Our final stage of production was to create the show visuals. We used a video screen packed with 90s visuals and graphics, a huge Better Than The 90s backdrop, sparkling special effects, and fantastic lighting and sound run by a wonderful talented team of engineers.

After many, many months of planning, reworking, designing, and rehearsing Better Than The 90s, the show premiered at the Theatre Royal in Nottingham on the 20th July 2022 to an excited crowd that spent the majority of their night on their feet – dancing, singing, whooping, and hollering!

We received fantastic feedback from audiences, and we look forward to our next Better Than The 90s performance at Dudley Town Hall on Friday 30th September – and many more successful shows across the UK!

    Testimonials

‘Wonderful show, impressive dancers, and an ideal collection of 90s music! Kevin and Perry were fabulous, and Hyacinth Bucket was a real hoot! We had a great time and noticed the audience were abuzz leaving the theatre. I’d see the show again without hesitation!’

‘We had the most amazing night! 100% need to do this again!’

‘Fabulous night! Loved every minute of it. When’s the next show?!’

    ‘An amazing debut!’

  8. Christmas at Northampton BID

Between the 19th of November 2021 and 3rd of January 2022, Big Foot Events had the pleasure of creating a magical Santa’s Grotto installation for Northampton Business Improvement District’s 2021 Christmas Promotions.

    The Brief

The client wanted to create a visually impressive Christmas Installation to be set up inside the Grosvenor Shopping Centre for the festive period. Northampton BID sought to draw in new and existing shoppers over the seasonal period and provide festive entertainment for families taking a pause from their Christmas shopping.

We made a list of ideas, checked it twice, and decided that our Santa’s Grotto was the perfect choice; it had a fantastic visual impact and was an exciting entertainment option offering shoppers the opportunity to meet and greet Santa Claus.

    The Challenges

Our Santa’s Grotto Installation was placed within an empty shopping unit fitted with a fire safety sprinkler system. This system needed to be accessible in case of the event of a fire, so the Grotto structure would need to be adjusted to comply with the shopping centre’s health and safety regulations.

The client was also conscious of shopper safety regarding the COVID-19 pandemic and required the Grotto and its garden to be designed to allow for, and encourage, social distancing.

    The Solutions

The Santa’s Grotto was structured in the style of a wooden chalet with a full chalet roof. To allow for the functionality of the sprinkler system, while maintaining the authenticity of the Grotto aesthetic, we removed the wooden roof and replaced it with wooden beams and snow flocking sheets. This permeable new roof complied with Grosvenor Shopping Centre’s health and safety regulations and retained a festive, wintry visual.

We organised the Grotto’s garden to accommodate a queueing system with a separate entrance and exit into and out of Santa’s Grotto. This one-way system encouraged social distancing, and we decorated the garden with themed props and snow flocking to keep shoppers in the queue entertained.

    The Results

The result was a stunning Santa’s Grotto, decorated internally and externally to create a wonderful, festive Christmas setting for children and families to meet Santa Claus.

No Christmas is complete without a visit to Father Christmas! The installation was a great success, with hundreds of families visiting Santa’s Grotto to meet and have their photo taken with Santa Claus.

  10. ‘Up to no good’ at Grand Arcade, Cambridge’s Harry Potter Themed Event…

On the 30th and 31st October 2021, Big Foot Events were ‘up to no good’ at Grand Arcade shopping centre in Cambridge creating a spellbinding Harry Potter Themed Event: ‘Grand Arcade and the Trail of Witchcraft and Wizardry’…

    The Brief

We had previously created a Harry Potter themed event for Grand Arcade in October 2020 and, despite restrictions in place due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the event was a terrific success! We were delighted to be invited to return and create an even bigger and better event for 2021.

Our 2020 event with Grand Arcade included our Sorting Hat Installation and Dumbledore Lookalike Performer, and it was fantastic to be able to invite more of the Hogwarts ensemble to the shopping centre for 2021!

The client wanted to ensure that the event would draw in new and returning shoppers and include some more of the best themed entertainment options we have to offer.

    The Challenges

With fewer social distancing restrictions in place,

and a bigger event programme planned, Grand Arcade anticipated more attendees upon the previous year’s shoppers.

There were concerns about capacity and we estimated 60 visitors per session, so each shopper would have a limited amount of character interaction. While this was possible, it would require regulating to avoid any disappointment, and we ensured that guests were kept entertained in the queue and could make the most of the character interaction.

With large crowds and long queues projected, we advised our performers to expect a high volume of people and asked them to entertain queues and passers-by.

    The Solutions

We created a plan to keep shoppers happy and entertained while waiting in queues. To ensure that no one in the queue grew restless, one of our character performers, Hagrid, kept people waiting in line entertained with meet and greet interactions.

To help manage numbers, our event programme was split over the course of a weekend with exciting activities planned for both days. This decision also encouraged repeat footfall: even if shoppers had completed the trail on Saturday, they would be encouraged to return and meet different Lookalike characters and participate in different activities on the following day.

    The Results

We created a magical Harry Potter experience at Grand Arcade with Lookalike Character Performers and a Sorting Hat installation. Alongside our fantastic performers, shoppers were invited to take part in a Themed Trail. The trail map, designed in the style of the ‘Marauder’s Map’ from the Harry Potter franchise, could be completed in order to gain the title of ‘Master of Witchcraft and Wizardry’ and receive a free chocolate treat. Shoppers could collect themed stickers such as ‘Snowy Owl’, ‘Magic Wand’, ‘Potions’, ‘Broomstick’, and ‘Spell Book’ from corresponding colour-coded shops around Grand Arcade. This encouraged participants to visit different locations around the shopping centre and was a constructive collaboration with shops.

On Saturday 30th October, visitors were invited to meet some of our charming Harry Potter Lookalikes – Dumbledore and Hagrid. Our Dumbledore performer hosted a Sorting Hat animated prop where children could pose for a photo opportunity and be sorted into their ‘Hogwarts house’. Hagrid roamed the shopping centre encouraging shoppers to visit the installation and participate in the trail.

On Sunday 31st, shoppers could pose for flying broomstick photos with our Hermione Lookalike and meet and greet Harry Potter and Professor McGonagall Lookalikes.

    Client Testimonial

We received fantastic verbal feedback from the client. They were delighted with the event and its reception from shoppers. The client was thrilled with how we managed the volume of people and our performers’ crowd interaction and queue management. They praised our Hagrid performer’s charisma and ability to keep people entertained while they waited.

Grand Arcade received fantastic feedback from shoppers on social media, with many visitors sharing their photos with our Lookalike performers and Sorting Hat installation. Ambika Rana-Beadle commented ‘What a brilliant idea! I thoroughly enjoyed watching Dumbledore with the Sorting Hat and, of course, Hagrid who managed the queue – they were fantastic’, and Sarah Parker shared that she visited with her children who ‘thoroughly enjoyed collecting the stickers and receiving their treat’.

The event was a great success for the second year running, and Grand Arcade have rebooked for an even bigger Harry Potter themed event for 2022!

We are excited to return to Grand Arcade later this year for another enchanting Harry Potter Event!

  11. The Result of an Event Coordinator Planning Their Own Wedding

September 2021 saw Helen Barker become Mrs Bridge. This member of the Big Foot Events family planned her special day during the pandemic, and we found out the result of an event coordinator creating their own wedding…

The restrictions of the last 18 months made this wedding a much-anticipated event. We expected guests to be stunned by the occasion!

Upon entrance, wedding guests were greeted to the venue by our glamorous Red Carpet Dress Lady . They were then invited to take a drink by our dazzling Champagne Dress Hostess.

    Wedding Entertainment

Our Dressing Team created the stunning backdrop for the exchanging of vows; the ceremony room was elegantly dressed with blossom trees, white linens, golden lighting, and graceful floral accents.

As the couple proceeded back down the aisle, the room joined together in song. A vocalist confirmed that they were now ‘Signed, Sealed, Delivered’ into marriage.

Following the vows, our Dressing Team sprang back into action and transformed the room for the wedding breakfast. This included the addition of blossom-tree centrepieces, hanging tealights, high-quality linens, and a pair of silver thrones for the couple.

    Wedding Venue Dressing
The time between the wedding breakfast and reception often creates a lull in the day… but not at this wedding.

The couple took this opportunity to create an Ibiza White Party for their guests. It was complete with Stilt Walkers, a Saxophonist, and a Craig David Tribute Artist.

There was no doubt this party would be a night to remember. Guests were treated to an evening full of the best live entertainment Big Foot Events has to offer. With a line-up of incredible Vocalists, Tribute Acts, and Live Bands, the white dance floor was packed from start to finish.

A huge congratulations to Helen and Gary Bridge!

  12. When the Dinosaurs came to Northampton BID…

    The Brief

We were delighted to create a dinosaur experience for Northampton Business Improvement District earlier this year!

Big Foot Events had initially organised a singular ‘Dinosaur Day’ for Northampton BID to take place in September 2020, but unfortunately due to COVID-19 restrictions it was unable to go ahead. We were thrilled that Northampton BID were reinstated for 2021 and we were able to rearrange the event for summer 2021, even bigger and better than before!

Now, after a difficult and uncertain year, it was even more important to bring visitors back to the Town Centre!

    The Challenges

Jurassic times call for Jurassic measures, and we planned to make 2021’s event even bigger than our original 2020 proposal!

Although we wanted to create a dinosaur extravaganza, we needed to ensure that our event was COVID-secure, met social distancing guidelines, and made visitors feel safe returning each week to enjoy the activities.

We also had to adhere to Health & Safety protocols put in place by the Council.

    The Solutions

We created an exciting dinosaur theme across the town over a three-week period in July, incorporating a range of different themed activities and entertainment for visitors. We held events on three consecutive Saturdays, encouraging repeat footfall with different attractions on each weekend. This dinosaur extravaganza also included our Jurassic Earth theatre show held at The Deco Theatre on the 13th and 14th of August.

Local businesses were also encouraged to participate in the promotions, and it was a pleasure to see so many independent shops and retailers take part in the event programme to create a Jurassic buzz around town!

Tom Cliffe, Director of local independent business Café Track in Market Square, transformed the outlet into ‘Café T-Rex’ for the day and ran special offers on food and drink, with dinosaur themed activities, games, and decorations: ‘It was an absolutely fantastic event, and it was so great to see so many different faces of all ages enjoying the dinosaurs. It was brilliant to see the Market Square being used for events such as this. Our takings were definitely up compared to normal Saturday’.

We had initially planned for some nutty Neanderthal characters to ride around the town centre in their Caveman Car to promote the Dino Dome but, as motorised vehicles were not permitted, we adapted to provide two on-foot walkabout interactive Crazy Caveman characters.

    The Results

Commencing on the 17th of July, our Dinosaur Rangers and adorable Baby Dinosaurs roamed Market Square to promote the big activities of the upcoming week! These newly hatched creatures are a captivating attraction, and visitors had the chance to meet the mini versions of the following week’s big guests…

On the 24th of July, our dinosaur experience came into full force as several of our impressive, large walking dinosaurs visited the town centre. This included roaming dinosaurs Richie Raptor, Spence Spinosaurus, and our Baby Dinosaurs, as well as arena-based shows featuring Zeus T-Rex and Tank Triceratops.

Our roaming dinosaurs were a walking attraction, leading visitors around the town centre and drawing their attention to different local shops. Static animatronic dinosaurs Noisy Norman and Cory the talking dinosaur were available for visitors to interact with in the Grosvenor Shopping Centre, and a Giant Egg photo opportunity was set up to generate social media interest and create lasting memories.

    bid case study

On the final Saturday of the event programme, visitors were invited to enjoy an incredible 360° immersive ‘Dinosaur Dome’ experience that would transport them millions of years back in time to the Jurassic Era! The Dinosaur Dome was free-of-charge to the public, and we provided an online ticketing system to manage numbers and ensure that social distancing was possible at each showing. The Dinosaur Dome was such a popular installation that it was fully booked, but 3D VR headsets and a Meteorite Handling workshop were available for visitors to enjoy without booking ahead. To promote the installation, Comedy Cavemen walkabout characters roamed the town centre interacting with visitors.

    bid case study

Thousands of families visited Northampton to take part in exciting dinosaur activities, with huge increases in visitor numbers and businesses in town reporting a surge in trade. Footfall figures demonstrated a 42% week-on-week increase in visitors to Market Square, and a 27% rise on the equivalent Saturday in 2019 before the pandemic struck, and Grosvenor Shopping Centre reported a 24% week-on-week rise in shoppers. Mark Mullen, Operations Manager for Northampton BID, agreed: ‘It was the busiest I have seen the town centre for a long time and nice reminder of what life was like before all of the restrictions. Everything came together to make the event a success, including the weather. The town was absolutely buzzing’.

During the event programme, Northampton BID encouraged visitors to take part in a ‘Dino Trail’ that complemented our dinosaur theme. More than 300 families enjoyed an interactive trail: using the ‘Explore Northampton’ app, visitors could locate 10 friendly augmented reality dinosaurs via their smartphones at different locations around the town centre.

A great number of retailers and food and drink outlets in Northampton participated in the event, running dinosaur-themed special offers and deals exclusive to visitors. Bewiched Coffee and Pjayz Kitchen offered a children’s meal deal that included a colouring sheet, Juice Café offered a limited edition ‘Do you think-he-saurus’ juice and ‘vegan volcano bagel’, and Geek Retreat Northampton ran a special dinosaur-themed milkshake named the ‘Roarsberry Extinction’. Vintage Guru and Salvation Army created themed window displays to tie in with the event, The Natural History Society Northampton ran a geology-focused town walk and hosted a display of Walter Cricks fossils, and Northampton Museum and Art Gallery ran children’s craft workshops with dinosaur themed activities!

    bid case study

    Client Testimonial

‘The dinosaurs were terrific; they really captured people’s imaginations and had a very realistic look and feel. They were perfect for our first major post-lockdown event. Big Foot Events were a pleasure to work with, and I would highly recommend them and their dinosaurs for those who really want to create a memorable live experience!’ – Mark Mullen, Operations Manager for Northampton BID

Big Foot Events also have the pleasure of creating Northampton BID’s Christmas promotions. We will be providing a Christmas Grotto installation in the Grosvenor Shopping Centre for the seasonal period. The Grotto will be decorated internally and externally to create a wonderful, festive Christmas setting for children and families to meet Santa Claus.

We have adapted our grotto to meet the shopping centre’s fire safety regulations: removing the solid grotto roof and replacing it with wooden beams and snow sheet so that, should the sprinkler system be set off, the water would be able to enter the grotto.

We also utilised the grotto’s garden area to create an in-and-out system that will allow guests to enter and exit separately to maintain social distancing.

We look forward to seeing the results of our sparkling Christmas Promotions!
