Sophie Ellis-Bextor is a solo artist who achieved success in the early 00s with her pop-disco-electronic music.
She initially made a name for herself as the lead singer for indie-rock band Theaudience.
In 2000, she collaborated with Italian DJ Spiller, adding vocals to the club track ‘Groovejet’. ‘Groovejet (If This Ain’t Love)’ entered the charts at #1.
Her debut album ‘Read My Lips’ reached #2 in the UK Albums Chart in 2001. Three of the album’s singes became top three hits in the UK. She was awarded the Edison Award for Best Dance Album.
One of the album’s singles, ‘Murder on the Dancefloor’, reached #2 and became her biggest single and was on the charts for 23 weeks.
Her follow-up album ‘Shoot from the Hip’ produced two top 10 singles.
