Bad Manners formed in 1976 while at school together in North London. In its formative years the band played a hybrid brand of R&B and Ska in the pubs and clubs of London and built a loyal following in the process.
In 1979 the band secured a prestigious recording contract with Magnet Records. Fronted by the larger than life Buster Bloodvessel, the band enjoyed chart success between 1980 and 1985 with twelve top selling singles including: ‘Special Brew’, ‘Lip Up Fatty’, ‘Can Can’, ‘Walking In The Sunshine’ and ‘My Girl Lollipop’ – and five top twenty albums.
They also released live videos and made many memorable Top Of The Pops appearances – but it has always been Bad Manners live performances that have made the band what it is today. An extensive tour throughout Britain, Europe, Far East, Australasia and the USA, subsequently led to a lucrative deal with CBS Records in 1986.
The new band then got down to touring colleges and universities throughout the country and headlined many scooter festivals, attracting regular crowds of 5,000. (One gig in the Isle Of White pulled in a massive crowd of 12,000). When Bad Manners weren’t gigging, Buster was busy carving out another career for himself in films such as ‘Sammy And Rosie Get Laid’ and ‘Out Of Order’ and in TV commercials – a career which continues to this day.
