Jean Genie formed in 1993 following the discovery of superb David Bowie look and sound-alike – John Mainwaring. John has made many MTV appearances and has undertaken numerous press/radio interviews. The Jean Genie band are well known for being perfectionists and news of their popularity has even reached Bowie himself.
The band soon became renowned for their accurate recreation of Bowie’s flamboyant stage shows and Jean Genie have even had the privilege of performing alongside the original ‘Spiders from Mars’ at the Mick Ronson Memorial concert after show part, performing in front of stars such as Roger Daltry (The Who), Roger Taylor (Queen) to name just a couple.
Jean Genie has twice been invited to headline The David Bowie Fanclub Convention, and have played their 70’s and 80’s show to capacity crowds at many festivals throughout the UK. They have also taken their stunning show overseas, with appearances in Europe, America and the Middle-East.
John Mainwaring vocalist and songwriter has made numerous appearances on TV and has undertaken numerous press/radio interviews. He has toured extensively as Ziggy Stardust (to critical acclaim) in the musical freak out. Oddly John Mainwaring has been produced by Tony Visconti who produced David Bowie himself.
John has had an impressive song writing career in his own right writing for radio and the famous his latest success has been writing three songs for Tony Christie’s best selling album The Definitive Collection.
