Born within six years of each other, sisters Grace, Kay and Jill grew up in a house where music could always be heard. One of the most often heard was the big band sound of Glenn Miller and his orchestra which of course included the much loved Andrews Sisters…
The Fenner Sisters found from an early age that singing in three part harmony came naturally to them and would do so at every given opportunity. The next step was learning to play musical instruments and later, when in their teens, forming their own band to perform a wide range of songs including original material.
Inspiration also comes from the Boswell Sisters, the original sister trio, who grew up in New Orleans in the early 1900s and very much influenced the Andrews Sisters.
The Fenner Sisters have brought the Andrews Sisters music back to life, some of which has not been heard for 70 years.
They have recently put together a five piece Swing / Jive band, The Swingin’ Privates, and their set now includes songs from:
Stray Cats, Brian Setzer, Cherry Poppin’ Daddies and others along with Andrews / Boswells favourites such as Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy, In The Mood and Write Myself a Letter.
Line up is Double Bass, Piano, Guitar, Drums and Trumpet.
As well as their own band, they also perform with Jason Isaacs, who recently won the Peoples Crooner competition, Dave Connolly Big Band, Ray Chester Orchestra, Tees Valley Jazzmen, Greg Francis Orchestra and others.
They have appeared at venues and events around the UK and in August this year the sisters will be returning to the Edinburgh Festival with Jason Isaacs.
