With Father’s Day just around the corner and the UK still on lockdown due to the Coronavirus, we understand that a lot of people might not be able to celebrate this special day like they normally would; a meal at your Dad’s favourite restaurant or simply a pint down the pub is simply not possible. This year people will need to be extra creative with how they celebrate the occasion, which is why Big Foot Events have put together five ways you can celebrate Father’s Day under lockdown.
Plan a BBQ
If the sun decides to grace you with its presence this Sunday (and we think it might!), then you can’t go wrong with a barbeque to celebrate Father’s Day this year. It’s a great way to spend time together whilst enjoying good food and let’s face it, most men don’t need an excuse to whip out the barbeque and flip burgers! If you don’t live with your dad but live close by, you can still visit your family now some of the lockdown restrictions; you can now attend small gatherings in gardens – just remember to abide by social distancing rules and keep two metres apart.
Virtual Day Trip
We know that people often celebrate Father’s Day with a fun day trip out, however due to the coronavirus almost all attractions are closed. That being said, thanks to the wonders of the internet a lot of attractions are offering virtual tours for free on their websites. Why not take a virtual look around a museum or an art gallery? You can even take part in a fun virtual escape room, plan a virtual murder mystery event, or even watch a virtual concert of a band or singer you both like.
Breakfast in Bed
For most dads, it’s the little gestures on Father’s Day that mean the most, you don’t have to spend a fortune on a present to make your dad feel special. Why not make him his favourite breakfast? With a lot of people on furlough, unable to work, this is the perfect time to give your dad that long deserved lie in with breakfast in bed. Whether it’s a full fry-up or simply beans on toast – we’re sure he will appreciate the thought.
Go for a Walk
All throughout lockdown we’ve heard how important it is to get out of the house for fresh air and some exercise. With the lockdown measures easing throughout the upcoming weeks, exercising outside has now become unlimited and people can meet up providing they stay two meters apart. So, if you don’t live with your dad then why not take a trek through the great outdoors? There are plenty of beautiful countryside spots around the UK for you to explore. It’s the perfect opportunity to spend time together whilst taking in breath-taking scenery.
Virtual Pub Quiz
If your dad loves a cheeky pint down the pub, but can’t go due to the coronavirus closures, then why not bring the pub to him? Even if you don’t live with him you can still enjoy that lively pub atmosphere with a virtual pub quiz night – who doesn’t love a good quiz? For Father’s Day, you can create a fun family quiz full of inside jokes. Prepare for lots of laughs – and cries, as you compete to see how well you know each other. The best part of a virtual quiz is everyone can take part from the comfort of their own homes, so there’s no carrying dad home after one too many!
Job Takeover
There are always jobs that need doing around the house, such as washing the dishes, walking the dog, putting the bins out, mowing the lawn, help in the garden. Take over your dad’s chores so that he can spend the day relaxing instead! An extension of this would be to create a batch of ‘Tokens’ that your dad or grandad can ‘cash in’ throughout the year, giving them a gift that lasts beyond Father’s Day. Don’t forget to include a ‘Hug’ token, for when the 2 metre distance rule is relaxed!
We hope that we have given you some ideas on how to celebrate Father’s Day this year. Don’t let this pandemic stop you from spending valuable time with your dad, grandad and loved ones.
