Jay James has worked alongside the Jonas Brothers and John Legend in the US, writing songs and recording music.
He was persuaded to enter The X Factor in 2014 and became a firm favourite from his first audition. Jay captured the nation’s imagination with his distinctive, powerful voice, unique background and incredible performances. Mentored by Simon Cowell, Jay was described by the music mogul as being ‘amazing’, ‘incredible’ and ‘genius’ for his unforgettable and creative arrangements of songs throughout the competition. Jay’s version of “500 Miles” by The Proclaimers became the first ever X Factor Live Performance to chart in the Top 10 of iTunes at No.7! This version also inspired Pixie Lott & The Proclaimers themselves during a live performance at the National Television Awards in 2014.
Jay James was predicted to be the Winner of X Factor 2014 by Simon Cowell who urged Jay to return to the studio following the competition to continue writing his own original music.
Jay went on to captivate audiences on The X Factor Live Tour, playing to over 300,000 people across the UK’s biggest arenas. In 2015, Jay was also voted the 10th
Hunkiest Man in the World by Heat/FHM Magazine in their annual poll Top 100, sitting alongside many A-List Hollywood Stars in the line-up!
Jay continued his song-writing and continues to be in demand at numerous high-profile and corporate events throughout Europe. He has performed to crowds of 81,000 at Twickenham Stadium and wowed audiences at the British F1 Grand Prix at Silverstone.
As well as being a charismatic singer and performer, Jay is a confident, charming and engaging Public Speaker, Presenter, Host and DJ, working with many prestige brands, Radio and Television.
Jay’s current engagements include being Brand Ambassador for Mercedes, a Guest blogger and presenter for a Men’s Fashion Magazine, and he was recently named an ambassador for The Royal British Legion. His first role was as the official online host for this year’s 'Festival of Remembrance', with live coverage build ups to interviewing stars performing including the likes of Sir Tom Jones, McFly and serving members of the UK Armed Forces.
Jay James began his career with 10 years’ service to the Military and became a Royal Navy Warfare Specialist turned Physical Trainer before falling into music.
In 2012 he burst onto the music scene having been signed by Decca Records (Universal) & Sony BMG as both a ‘Recording Artist & Songwriter’ Jay wrote & featured on the song “Fly” by Cinematic; labelled a ‘Summer Anthem’ and championed by Radio 1 DJ’s Annie Mac & Trevor Nelson. His debut single ‘Long may they Roll’ achieved National radio playlist success and the debut Album ‘Play it by Heart’ was critically acclaimed featuring collaborations with the likes of John Legend, ’The Roots’ (James Poyser) and super producer Malay (Sam Smith, Frank Ocean).
The foundations of a bright future were furthered with a feature on ‘Broken Heart’ alongside Grammy Lifetime Award Achiever, Booker T Jones. The song produced by Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis became the lead single taken from the Album ‘Sound The Alarm’ on Stax Records which also featured the likes of Anthony Hamilton, Gary Clarke Jnr and Estelle. The song featuring Jay’s soulful vocals was described by Radio 2’s Chris Evans as an ‘instant classic’. Having written for and collaborated with some of the World’s finest writers and producers, Jay has also extensively toured with the likes of Simply Red, Rebecca Ferguson and as a special guest to Alexander O’Neal.
